Huzaime Dato’ Hamid Huzaime Dato’ Hamid is the founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ingenium Advisors Sendirian Berhad, Malaysia’s financial macroeconomic and geostrategy advisory.  He has more than a quarter century’s experience in public policy advisory at national and international levels, geostrategy, macroeconomics, high-level finance, financial macroeconomics, and in international capital markets. He has written many articles, papers and opinions on various subject matters and continues to research and write on matters close to his ideals and principles.  He has, to date, more than 30 year’s experience in the capital markets.

Huzaime was accepted into the rolls of the British Publishing House Ltd.’s Successful People In Malaysia and Singapore in 2026.

Huzaime has had a varied and very rewarding career centered on public policy advisory, geostrategy, macroeconomics, financial economics, capital markets, and high finance.

Just before establishing Ingenium Advisors, he was the Head of Strategic Operations at Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund, in which he was heavily involved in the creation of the Malaysian social security net, which has, so far, culminated in the Private Retirement System, Minimum Wage Act, and the Minimum Retirement Age Act. 

He was formerly an independent researcher in financial economics, banking, investments, and civilization building. Prior to that, he was a Senior Fellow of Malaysia’s premier think-tank, the Institute for Strategic and International Studies, Malaysia (ISIS Malaysia), directly reporting to the Chairman, the late Tan Sri Noordin Sopiee. His specialization there was in geostrategy, economics, finance, capital markets, and businesses. He has been active in several Network of East Asian Think Tanks’ Working Groups, principally those focused on finance, economics, and community-building, covering the ASEAN countries and China, Japan, and South Korea. He continues his engagement with several international and Malaysian think tanks to this day.

Huzaime is a holder of both a Masters of Science in Financial Economics (with Merit) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom, and a Bachelors of Science in Economics from the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, Huzaime further holds an Advanced Certificate in Russian Language from the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Kuala Lumpur and the Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language, Moscow, Russia.

Huzaime has spent more than 30 years in finance, of which 12 years were as a fund manager and 2 years as a Stockbroking Dealer’s Representative in both regional and domestic markets. He was with Asia’s then premier investments firm, Jardine Fleming Investments Management, Hong Kong (now a member of JP Morgan, Chase and Company Group). Further to that, he has spent a total 43 years as an Independent Investment Committee Member with the five entities within the CIMB Group of Malaysia as mentioned above. He has won several awards for his work in investments, both individually as well as a team leader.

While he was a Board Committee member of the various arms of the CIMB Group (some of which became part of the Principal Group) over a span of 17 years, he was part of the following accomplishments:

  • The Assets Under Management grew from RM1 billon in 2004 to a peak of RM88 billion in 2020,
  • The local firm (first called CIMB-BT, then CIMB-Principal, before becoming Principal in Malaysia) evolved from one domestic office to a four country regional group of companies,
  • One of them, CIMB-Principal Islamic (then becoming Principal Islamic) was one of the first Islamic asset management companies in Malaysia (operational in 2008),
  • The firms he was part of have won more than 100 fund management performance awards, and
  • Winning the award of Best Fund Management House for Asia Pacific several times.

He also held various finance-related posts with two of Malaysia’s largest multi-national companies, Sime Darby and Malayan Banking. 

2013 saw Huzaime begin an audacious venture, setting up Ingenium Advisors, Malaysia’s financial macroeconomics advisory with a strategic public policy focus. In 2017, Huzaime created Ingenium Advisors’ website by himself, without any technical training beforehand. The website makes Ingenium Advisors’ thoughts available to the public, a rare happening for what has been named a think-tank. With the website, Ingenium Advisors has joined the digital revolution. It continues to make an impact internationally today.

Huzaime was a Malaysian government scholarship holder, a member of Phi Eta Sigma US National Freshmen Scholastic Honour Society, a graduate of the Outward Bound School in Lumut, Perak, Malaysia, and once held two athletic records for the Malaysian Inter-Merchant Bank Games. His oldest national achievement was winning the Prime Minister’s Trophy for English Debates in 1981 when he was just 16 years old. 

Huzaime speaks Malay, English, Indonesian, German, and Russian. He writes regularly in several publications, most notably the Edge Financial Weekly, Malaysia’s best business publication from 2007. He was a participant in the prestigious 2ndASEAN Senior Management Development Program organized by the Harvard Business School in 2007.

His first book, on financial macroeconomics, was published by the Universiti Malaya Press in 2020, called, “A View From The Ringside: The Global Financial Crisis 2007-2010 From An Asian Economist’s Perspective”. It has been inducted into the prestigious US Library of Congress.

In 2024, he published his second book, “The Formula For National Wealth: How Developing Countries Can Attain Developed Status”, also under Universiti Malaya Press. It focuses on the tried and proven methods used by developing countries that has resulted in them climbing the development ladder and reaching the very top to becoming a wealthy nation.

He is currently working on his third book, centred around public policy problems and their recommended solutions.
